Basic prevention still makes good sense

The flu is a highly contagious viral infection, and in some forms it can be deadly. “Flu season” can begin as early as October and last as late as May, but some strains of the flu virus are a year-round health hazard. In many cases, something as simple as getting a flu vaccine can help employees avoid the flu. Reminding people of simple, everyday steps can make their households—and your company—healthier places.

  • Avoiding close contact with those who are sick is important.

  • Covering a sneeze with a cloth or tissue reduces airborne illness hazard.

  • Washing hands with soap and warm water can reduce the spread of illness. Especially:
    • after coughing or sneezing
    • before and after preparing food
    • after using the toilet
    • after handling animals or animal waste
    • anytime your hands are dirty
    • when someone is sick at home

  • Teaching children to wash their hands can keep a whole household healthier.
